Guardians don't necessarily have to be family members though.

Well yeah, but they need to be of some kind of really close relation, and I guess what I'm saying is that it'd be weird to me to make such a relationship up (given that my character is supposed to be me) but also vaguely undesirable to pick a real-life candidate.

Well, do you have a friend who you feel is better than you?
That was my plan for a guardian.

I think they'd be somewhat unnecessary. In the actual Homestuck the Guardians mostly served a role because they were somehow linked to the Medium and or SBURB. I don't think it's absolutely necessary, but who knows.

Well, do you have a friend who you feel is better than you? No. I would have literally no idea for a guardian. :/

Also, what should we call this?
I'm thinking "Padlocked". But that's me with the double meanings again.

I hadn't even thought about names! I'll go with whatever seems most appropriate~

i feel like we wouldn't be doing the comic justice unless we reached its level of convoluted bullshittery.
that is to say, we'd either have to be very good at making stuff up on the spot, or very coordinated. i like the former more.
Also i feel like since we don't know the full rules of Sburb, it would be a lot more fun to have some kind of "dungeon master" defining original rules but never telling us anything.
we really don't need to borrow a template of ridiculosity when we are perfectly capable of making one ourselves.

You make some really good points. Between the two alternatives you provides, I'm kind of hoping we could reach a mix of the former and the latter. But mostly resting on the former, of course. It's very true that we don't know the full rules of Sburb and for that reason I think it'd be necessary to derail the game, almost as soon as everyone got into the Medium, and start messing with the structure a la Jackspers Noirlecrow. Obviously we could, like, fight the Denizens and go right to Skaia, but since we don't know how that's been in the comic yet... yeah. The dungeon master is also a really interesting idea though. EDIT: Also, for what it's worth, there are people setting up Homestuck RPs on the MSPA forum all the time. So it must not bother them that we still don't know the rest of the story. EDIT #2: Oh, also, we wouldn't actually have to play through the entire game in this RP. Honestly I'd be cool with just getting everyone into the Medium, and then leaving the RP there before anyone goes through their first Gate. TO BE CONTINUED. And then maybe in another year or so, if Homestuck is finished by then, if we felt like it, we could get the band back together and play through to the end. But for now, you see what I mean? That would take a little of the pressure off not knowing everything Mr. Hussie has planned.

Considering the rate we move at in RP, I don't think it's be necessary to completely stop the RP at certain milestones.
If we did, though, I'd definitely say before the second gate so that people get a feel for each other's worlds. Then people can worry about other stuff in the down time.

it would also be fun to take this completely srsly.
GUYS. STOP HAVING FUN. STOP HITTING EACH OTHER IN THE HEAD WITH SQUIRRELS. THIS IS SERIOUS. UNIVERSE. AT. f*ckING. STAKE.
Anyway, the more I think about the dungeon master, the more it makes sense to me. The DM is the game engine, which makes sure that all of the players are on the same page. Sure, with this RP, there's going to be a lot of room for individual creativity (such as the alchemitezitaecisaererering things) but the DM can at least give us a new lore to work with instead of having the standard Exiles with dark vs light etc etc.

Hmm. Well, give it some thought. Maybe you'd rather take DM duties than be a player. I wouldn't mind doing both, but given the choice I'd rather stick with my character.

man i hate organizing why would i ever be a DM
it's not like i'm currently entrusted at my school job with managerial responsibilities.
wait.
anyway, that was a half-jest I was suggesting with the whole playing as Jade thing. I used her as an example because she clearly knows things that others do not, and she takes advantage of this knowledge, but not in the most logical of ways.

Derpderp updating thisums. After mulling it over, I redrew dear coruscatingRainbow to this lovely madam because I like it better <333 Much lighter now too :> She's also so pretty colors could never do her justice and/or Tangrow has no skills with crayons/B&W Scanner <333 I suppose that her associated item is Wood, actually. Annnnd if we do go with Guardians it would be her Aunt. I also believe it should be called Super Wonderful Rainbow Time : D

Make my guardian my older brother. The Sleeping Giant.

Sand might come too close to mine, Clay. So I'd pick Water out of the two.
EDIT: You know what would be funnier, though. Weed.
WEED IMPS! GANJA OGRES! CANNABIS BASILISKS!
