OOC: You might want to change that, cause we now have a clone of Dace walking where Durant should be.
BIC: Durant looked away from the sky and back at Laksha, still smiling. "He's probably pretty close, I don't know though. We've been together for a long time already. " He then looked down at Taraek. "What do you think pal, are you close to evolving?" Taraek's only reply was to give a vague shrug and then to sigh.
"It's ok pal, it'll happen someday." He then poked the Oddish in it's side. "You're not close to evolving are you?" The Oddish shook itself from side to side, causing Durant to laugh. "I didn't think so. But you'll evolve someday too I'm sure." He paused slightly in his speesh and stared off into the distance for a moment, then looked back at the Oddish he held in his arms." Ya know, we should really think of a name for you, then you'll be a proper member of our family."

"I haven't even seen either of your other Pokemon, Laksha." Dace said distantly, trying to do some math in her head. "They gotta be something that isn't a ground Pokemon, though. Right?" She paused.
"Unless you're a specialist trainer, then they'd all ground." She scuffed her shoe on the rough roadway, dislodging a scraggly clump of grass. As she took her next step, she kicked it along ahead of her.
"I don't know why people would specialize in something, when there's sooo much out there to choose from. It just seems kinda like those kids you see in school who only eat PB and J, or macaroni and cheese, or something..." She kicked the clod again. "I like everything to be different. Heck, I don't know if I'd get bored if Minnow didn't change forms."

Laksha shook her head. "I do rather like Ground Pokemon, but no, you're right: my other two Pokemon are of other types. They're -- Actually, here."
Laksha plucked her second and third Pokeballs off her trainer's belt and tossed them lightly onto the ground. Before bouncing back into her hands, they opened to reveal two balls of red light. One of them transformed into a sleek silvery-blue fish whose overall shape vaguely suggested a revolver, while the other materialized into a puddle of gently bubbling magma in the form of a slug.
"This is Matsya," Laksha said, pointing to the Remoraid; and, "This is Sankh", she said, pointing to the Slugma.
Matsya (who, like all fish Pokemon, was capable of existing on land, although she seemed vastly out of her element) swiveled her body around rapidly to take in all the new faces, but Sankh simply oozed forward slowly, his bright eyes taking in much but appearing to process very little.
"Ganesh was my first, though, as you must have guessed," Laksha added. The Phanpy had bounded over to greet his friends. He very softly bumped the frail-looking Matsya with his trunk. Then he rolled a circle around Sankh (whose igneous body, of course, he had long since learned not to bump with his trunk).

Durant pulled out a pokeball as soon as he saw the molten slug-like pokemon. "Taraek, return now!" A moment later there was a flash of energy and the space where Taraek had been was now empty.
The smile that was so often on his face had been replaced by a slightly concerned expression.
"Taraek...... He doesn't get a long with fire-types. Not at all.... There's usually issues, right away. So, until it's gone, I think I'm going to have to keep him in here" he said, holding onto the pokeball firmly. He then set down the Oddish, who walked up to the slugma, and even smiled at it., causing Durant to chuckle, bringing some of the smile back to his face.
"I guess Oddish doesn't have any problems though."

"Oh! Cool!" Dace stepped over the Slugma as best she could, turning to face the two creatures front the direction the group had been walking. "I can see why neither of them are out, though. It's not like either could keep up with us on foot, and Sonk would be hurt be the rain." She knelt down, considered petting the Slugma, noted Ganesh's caution, and backed off. Turning her gaze to the Remoraid, she considered petting it, but remembered how her mother had told her not to touch fish. If she did, it could rub some the slime off of them, and make them get sick really easy. Or something like that...
"I'm Dace, Laksha's friend. We'll all be seeing a lot of eachother, so I hope you guys can be my friends too."

OOC: Act like my post came before his, I guess. Such is life. I'll go edit a real post in here in a moment.
BIC: "Oh, wow... I knew that Tarake had a temper from when I fought him, but I didn't know it was that bad." Dace patted the Pokeball with her Burmy inside.
"Minnow doesn't really have anything she hates like that. She really doesn't like losing or getting hurt, but I don't think that anybody likes THOSE happening to them." Seeing that the group wasn't really enraptured with her stating of the obvious, she brought her topic back to the Bulbasaur.
"Any idea why he'd hate them like that? It seems kinda weird, you know?"

OOC - Heh, I love Dace's misinterpretation of "Sankh". Fits her bright-yet-childish demeanor perfectly.
Matsya's eyes stopped darting around the party and settled on Dace as the girl knelt and spoke to her. In response to Dace's smile, the Remoraid rustled her fins and lightly spritzed water onto Dace's cheek.
"Oh -- I'm sorry! That's her way of showing approval," Laksha explained. "She'd use a stronger Water Gun if she was upset. Or a Psybeam, for that matter." The girl pondered that for a moment. "I think Matsya must be able to use moves of many more elements than she lets on. That's why I wanted to raise one; I understand they become quite versatile. Octilleries even more so."
Sankh, meanwhile, was turning up his mouth in a rather goopy smile at the Oddish, whose good will he must have sensed. Reluctantly, Laksha drew him back into his Pokeball. "I'm very sorry if Sankh upset Taraek," she said to Durant. "I can understand why he would take issue with Fire-types... Strange, though, that the Oddish doesn't seem perturbed. All the same, I hope Taraek and Sankh can get along eventually; he really isn't a mean sort at all."
She recalled Matsya, too, so that they could continue walking. "Do either of you have other Pokemon?"

"Nothin' here. I've fought a lot of wild Pokemon, but-" Dace tilted her head to the side. "I guess I always felt like 'hey, if they lose to Minnow, they probably aren't strong enough to keep up with me'. Not saying Minnow's bad or anything, but everything around where I came from was just plain boring and weak. The wild Abras were especially annoying, since Minnow was fast enough to bump them once, but not to win a fight with them..." Dace pounded her fist into her palm.
"So, no, I don't have any. I'm hoping I can get something when we get up to Cerulean. Maybe a water one? That'd be really cool to have. They could back up Minnow in a fight, then."

"Other than the two you've seen, no I don't. I know why he doesn't get along with fire types though." He sighed and looked back up at the sky for a moment, then back at Dace and Laksha, who both seemed curious about why Taraek had a problem with fire-types.
"Back when I lived with my parents, we would travel around a lot, and almost every time we went out, we'd come across a Bulbasaur that was being attacked by fire-types. That's how he and I first met. My parents said that he was young, and that he probably got separated from his parents. So, I always chased them away from him.
"After a year or so of that happening, he and I became really good friends, and one day when my parents weren't looking, I picked him up and sneaked him into the van and we fell asleep. When we woke up my mom told me that I could keep him."
He sighed again, then tossed the pokeball containing Taraek to the ground, and a moment later Taraek reappeared, looking somewhat tense, and very upset.
"That's not all though. My sister, Ophelia, she had a Charmeleon and she didn't like either Taraek or me. So she'd usually send Spitfire to hunt for Taraek while she was trying to beat me up. One day it got really bad, and since then he's become very violent towards almost all fire type pokemon. If he and I had been paired up against one in the tournament back in Lavender then I might have withdrawn."
Finding that the Slugma had disappeared, Taraek began to calm down, however he kept close to Durant. Durant bent down to pick him up, and smiled again. "You need to take a few lessons from Oddish, you know that pal?

OOC: I was hoping to get another round or two before my next big event, but I might be forced to reveal it after this round. BIC: "Ohhh... That's really bad, huh?" Dace murmured, her usual bounce replaced by a more dragging pace. She tapped the clump of grass off of the path with the instep of her shoe, and tightened her grip on Minnow's ball.
"I can't blame him. If that happened to me, I'd hate everybody like that, too. I mean, it's one thing if somebody is mean to you once, but if they're mean to you a lot, well, that's just plain horrible."
"I don't know why anybody or anything would act like that. I mean, I can understand beating somebody to reach a goal, but even then, they should be somewhere near as strong as you. Just picking on somebody weaker than you? I really don't get it." Dace concluded. She paused, seeing Ganesh's attention being drawn by something. The small elephant paused, sniffing into the wind, and glancing cautiously towards the stones fringing the roadway that they were on.
"Spot another Pokemon, buddy? I'll get this one, if it's anything good," Dace stepped out from under Laksha's umbrella, readying the sphere that held her Burmy with one hand, and drawing an empty one from a pocket on her backpack. She stepped up awkwardly onto the waist-high stone, ascending it with a little effort. Ganesh trumpetted again, this one slightly more nervous sounding.
"Don't worry. Nothing around here is a threat to us, Ganesh." Dace glanced into the thicket surrounding the roadway, eying it like some kind of stooped over, shivering, hawk. A spot of pink caught her eye, and she smiled.
"It's only a Jigglypuff. Cover your ears, guys, in case this doesn't work." Dace leaned back, winding up, and than pitched the empty ball into the vegetation. There was a whooshing noise as it drew in the Pokemon, the red and white ball standing out sharply amongst the verdant terrain. It clamped shut, an LED in the front button switching on in a clear shade of red.
It shook once, wobbling on the weeds beneath it. It shook again, tumbling to the soil. Shaking one last time, the light began to fade-
Only to be torn apart by two huge paws, each the size of catcher's mittes. Rising up from the thorny undergrowth, a creature almost as tall as Dace on her perch met her gaze. Gigantic fangs, the length and rough shape of carving knives jutted up at the corners of its jaws. Mouth like a trash compactor working quietly, a growl rising in its throat, the beast used a gigantic paw to usher its pup behind it. It began slowly advancing, briars having no effect on its calloused grey hide.
"Crap!" Dace shouted, trying to jump off of the rock. Slipping on the wet moss, she fell halfway off of it, halfway on. Kicking her feet to get over the barrier, and frantically scrabbling to her feet, she charged back to the group.
"GUYS! DOG-BEAR THING!" She panted, clearly out of breath and ignoring where the ground and stone had scraped away the skin on her elbows and knees. She turned back to the wall, urgently readying to send out Minnow, only to see that whatever the beast was, it had disappeared.
"Where is it?" Dace wheeled around, checking behind her. The only thing ahead of the group was the open road, the hazy lights of Cerulean on the horizon. She turned back one more time, just wanting to see if the creature had reappeared.
There was a loud crunch in the bushes, and a faded-grey shape catapaulted over the group, landing about twenty feet to the south of them. Muscles rippling with power, eyes full of a primal rage, it began advancing towards them with a steady pace. Dace took a step forward, glaring at it, shaking now even more than before.
"Minnow, get him!" Dace spoke, her voice full of panic and not confidence. The sphere flashed forth, releasing the insect onto the muddy ground. It chirped in anticipation of the battle, crouching as if ready to hurl itself at the enemy. The canine wasn't cowed in the slightest, merely continuing its pace towards the trio and their Pokemon.
"Hidden Power! Now!" Dace intructed, the Burmy nodding. It began swaying in circles, barely mainting its balance as it began humming with building energy. Sparks shot from its body, crackling on the earth as they hit. Its eyes turning brilliant azure, Minnow let the build up. Six orbs of electricity formed a ring around it, gum wrappers and pieces of string being drawn from its webbing. It bowed low, and then snapped upwards, the spiralling circle of voltage flying skywards before descending towards the Granbull.
Taking the attack, unphased, the beast let loose a bellow, and then lunged. Catching the Burmy on its fangs, it snapped its head aside. The flung creature slammed into the stone with a brutal crunch, bouncing once and then lieing still.
"Crap! MINNOW!" Dace gritted her teeth, gauging the injury. Minnow had to be unconscious, but she could take blows like that and not be too badly hurt. She'd be okay later. As for right now, however... Dace held up the sphere, Minnow being transmuted into light and streaming back into it.
"Guys..." She whispered, starting to back up. "I think that this thing's a bit too strong for us."

Laksha was at first unable to speak, awed by the brutal menace of the advancing Granbull. In another instant, however, she found words in the form of a hushed instruction: "Distract it--!"
Ganesh, who had been cowering at the giant bulldog's approach, came to his senses upon hearing Laksha's voice. Without waiting for further orders, he leapt into a spin, circling around and around the Granbull in rings that grew alternately wider and narrower with each revolution. The Granbull whipped its massive head from side to side with visible difficulty. Every time the blue-gray blur that was Ganesh drew too close, the Granbull slammed down a bulky paw in an effort to pin him down, but Ganesh was too fast. The Granbull's pup, a petite Snubbull, huddled closely by its parent's side and growled whenever the Phanpy passed.
"Perfect, Ganesh!" Laksha called out. She hoped the distraction would provide Durant and Taraek an opening to utilize a strong attack. She knew Dace was right that this Pokemon was far stronger than any of theirs individually, so that if they didn't coordinate their offensive, they would find themselves soon on the run.

"Taraek, use sleep powder to knock them out!" Taraek shot a small seed out of it's body at Granbull, as it impacted against it's head the seed shattered and the air around it filled with powder.
The Granbull roared out in anger, turned and charged at Taraek. The sleep powder had already began to take effect though, and the Granbull collapsed on the ground, only a few feet away from it's target, it's child lay sleeping where the Granbull had once been. Ganesh, however, was still awake. He rolled back over to Laksha, staying close to her as he stared at the fallen Granbull
Durant moved up close to the sleeping Granbull and bent down. Even though it was asleep, it seemed to sense he was there and reached out, clawing at the air for him.
He frowned slightly. " This isn't good.... Granbull are never this aggressive, even with young. If it thought we were a threat, it would have just moved away as quietly as it could. " He pulled out small blue ball and pressed it against the sleeping Granbull, a moment later the ball opened and the Granbull disappeared inside.
"We need to take it with, something about it isn't right, even aggressive pokemon with young don't attack... Can one of you two take Snubbull with you? I don't think we can just leave it alone here, it's too young."
The red light in the front of the great ball slowly faded away. Durant continued staring at it, a frown visibly on his face.

"I never wanted a Snubull, but I'll take it for now. Maybe we can give it to somebody that wants one, right?" Dace produced a ball, and threw it at the rose-colored pup. It disappeared in the resulting flash, the ball not even shaking. Dace walked over, her feet dragging on the muddy stone, and knelt down. She pocketed the sphere, all the while clutching the one that held her Burmy to her chest.
"I remember my teacher in school mentioning something about a project where they shipped wild Pokemon to Orre to try and populate it. But it didn't go well, and now all that's left are the really tough and mean fire and poison types, usually." Dace wiped the mud from her knee, walking back under the umbrella. "Of course, if that project came back, maybe we could send these two along? I think they could handle themselves out there."
It was evident that Dace was too distracted by her Burmy's condition to pay heed to his words about the abnormal behavior of the Granbull. Even if it wasn't hurt badly, there was something disheartening about getting destroyed so easily in battle...

Ganesh, who had ceased his rolling, now regarded Taraek and Durant with what Laksha thought might be an impressed look in his eyes. Laksha, too, was surprised that the Granbull had been captured so easily, although she was able to spot a detail that was lost on Ganesh.
"It's clever of you to stock Great Balls," she said to Durant. "I've never bought anything but Pokeballs yet, I worry that I'll just carry the Great Balls around and never use them. But then again, I wasn't counting on attacks from anything so strong as a Granbull."
It didn't escape Laksha's notice, either, as Dace returned to her side under the umbrella, that the girl was holding Minnow's Pokeball with the utmost care. "I'm sorry about Minnow," Laksha told her. "We should find somewhere to heal her as soon as possible. But I don't suppose there are any Pokemon Centers until we reach Cerulean?"
Looking up at the sky, which showed no signs of clearing soon, she added, "I wouldn't mind getting out of the rain, either."

"They had a sale back in Lavender, shortly after the tournament, so I decided to buy a few." He reached into the side pouch of his backpack, and pulled out three more small blue balls.
"I only have three more though. I didn't think I'd have to use one of them so soon." He smiled slightly again. "I guess it's a good thing too. I don't think it would have stayed asleep for much longer, it was already stirring!"
He looked at the ball containing the vicious Granbull.
"Before I moved to Kanto, I used to live in Pyrite Town, in Orre. When I lived there we used to see vicious pokemon a lot. It turned out that an organization called Cipher had been forcing their hearts to close artificially. This Granbull reminds me of it a lot. The only difference is that it has it's young with it.... Shadow pokemon were solitary before."
He walked back over to Laksha and Dace, finally choosing to stand under the umbrella, Taraek followed, but chose to remain out in the rain.
"I agree, we should get to a Pokemon Center as soon as possible. I want to send the Granbull to a lab in Orre that specializes in Shadow Pokemon research, maybe they can tell us what's wrong with it." He paused, thinking. "Oh! The project did meet some mild success. Hoppip were successfully introduced into the wild. A bunch of ground types moved in too." He smiled a bit more.
Oddish peered out from behind the tree it'd been hiding behind. Seeing that the Granbull was gone, she dashed up to Durant as fast as her short legs could carry her. "Oddish!" she cried, fearfully. When she reached Durant, he picked her up. "Hey, it's ok now. The Granbull is gone now." She looked up at him questioningly "Odd?" Durant laughed. "Really."
He then turned to Dace. "Hey, if you want you can barrow Oddish till we get to Cerulean. If that's ok wit Oddish of course." "Oddish!" She said, smiling. She then turned to Dace, waiting for an answer from her.
OOC: I decided to keep Oddish female. Man.... I think I really lost it in this post. I feel like I need to retouch it a lot. Well, if I left anything unclear, just say so and I'll specify and touch up my post, which it could probably use anyway >.<

"There's nothing until the middle of Cerulean. But Minnow should be fine after a night's rest, anyways, since the Granbull didn't give her any real wounds. I think..." Dace smiled weakly. The rain began coming down harder, still misting the group despite their cover.
"I don't like anything stronger than Pokeballs. Feels like a waste of money when you can just knock 'em out for sure-shot catch," Reminded by the change in the topic of the conversation, Dace checked her inventory, patting her pocket lightly, "I've got four more on me, and my mom packed me a tube of six more for later on."
"I don't know WHAT would take that much to catch, but's better than runnin' out, right?" She looked to the group for approval, only to have Durant begin his story.
"Oh, so that's why you knew how to deal with it. That's kinda cool, not the Cipher thing, but that you learned that where you came from..." Dace deliberately stepped in a puddle, the water splashing up over her ankles and spattering the others lightly.
"I'd like borrowing her. That way, I can help you guys until Minnow gets better," Dace said, gesturing for the group to stop. She knelt down to the leafy creature, and extended a hand.
"So, how about it? Partners?" The Oddish's response was obvious, leaping up to meet her hand. Dace chuckled, and scooped the little plant up in her arms. Her hug seemed to be a little tighter than was ideal for the Pokemon, but it took it without protest. It turned in her grasp, choosing to enjoy the view from this new perspective.
OOC: About what time are you guys seeing this as being? Because I'm thinking it's like 7 somethin'.

OOC: Ah, gotcha. Dang, I must be supremely out of it today.... It'd explain why I keep ditching my pistol and keeping the assault rifle in games today (I'm better with the pistol)
BIC: Ugh... Ket..... I'm now afraid to post.
And I've considered posting there several times, but I'm usually leaving, or somn more important comes up by the time that I figure out what I'm going to say.
And, er w00t for being the first post on the third page? (Sadly it's not an RP post. Wait, WHAT? THIS MUST CHANGE!!!!!!!)
"Well, I didn't think I'd find anything like them here.... It might not be anything like that at all, I mean it does have a kid with it." His smile grew considerably, until it was as large as it had been before the Grnabull had appeared.
Taraek walked underneath the umbrella, and shook himself off roughly, spraying everyone around him with water, causing Durant to laugh. "Too wet out there for you too, huh?" He knelt down and patted him on the head.
"I have to say, Oddish is really social. Taraek's never been so friendly."

The rain clouds had obscured the setting sun, but Laksha could clearly see that the day was winding to a close. "Since we won't reach Cerulean today, perhaps it would be best to set up the tent here for the night? Dace -- you did say you brought a tent, yes?"
She wondered idly whether Durant had brought his own tent or whether he would be sharing with the girls. Of course, it hardly mattered to her one way or the other, unless Dace's tent was too small.

Dace shrieked with laughter as the Pokemon soaked her and the rest of the group. She knelt low again, setting down the Oddish, and then ran her fingers through her hair to try to wring the rainwater out.
"Some Pokémon are that way. It's like people. Us two are always loud, and Laksha's always quiet, but we're all good, right?" Dace removed her fingerless gloves, slipping them into her pockets, and tried to wipe her palms off on her shirt with little success. After a few more futile attempts, she gave up, and simply jammed her hands into her pockets along with her gloves.
"I got a tent. I just really hope that Durant brought his own, because my mom didn't want me sharing this tent with him," The youth struggled with her backpack for a moment before managing to loose it from a shoulder. With a considerable ammount more fidgeting, she freed herself from the other strap, and brought it around in front of her.
"It should be packed somewhere in the middle. It's under the-" Dace dropped to the ground, sitting on the wet, cold stone without even a second thought. She pulled the pack closer to her, holding the flap open with her chin as she rummaged through it.
"Change of clothes, don't need it right now, soup, I'm not hungry, towel, I'll need that in a bit, pajamas, I'll need those, Antidotes, won't need those any time soon, AH! Here it is!" Dace began struggling again with the bag, a maroon bundle poking its corner out. She grabbed it with both hands and pulled, using her elbows to hold the backpack down and give her leverage.
"Here it is!" Dace triumphantly presented a roll of shiny cloth, about the size of the average pillow. She walked away from the road, looking for a clear spot in the grass, and then set it down. She gestured for the others to come closer, and then stepped on a red bit of plastic resembling a tag. The tent responded, instantly springing up into its domelike shape. The structure was a little shorter than Dace, and about three paces across.
"Stand back, now," Dace instructed, gently shooing the rest of the group back a stride, "This is the really neat part."
A point protruded from five different spots along the bottom edge of the tent, each one seemingly coming out of a tube. They drew back for a moment, and then shot into the ground with a pneumatic hiss.
"Home sweet home." Dace undid the flap on her tent, and stepped inside.

"Simply amazing how compact they can make items like this when not deployed," Laksha observed, deeply impressed by Dace's tent. "Of course, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. Once trainer's utilities became big business, there was an enormous wave of collapsible technology for the journeying trainer's convenience. My father told me all about that."
To Ganesh, she said, "Would you like to sleep in the tent, out on the path, or inside?" This seemingly odd statement made sense to Ganesh, who understood "inside" to mean "in his Pokeball". The Phanpy trotted over to the tent, poked his trunk and then his whole head in under the flap, looked around, and drew his head back out. Apparently it didn't seem large enough to accomodate him. She supposed he'd like to get out of the rain all the same, and sure enough he curled into an immobile ball reminiscent of the move Defense Curl, his customary pantomime for entering his Pokeball.
"Certainly," said Laksha, as she drew the first Pokeball off her trainer's belt. In another moment, Ganesh had retreated there for the night.
"To be honest, I was hoping he'd want that," Laksha confided to Dace and Durant. "He's adorable when he's sleeping -- curled up like that for hours -- but he's also rather noisy. My mother would joke that his trunk never goes to sleep; it spends the whole night puffing and sighing and whining, trying to wake the rest of him back up."
Having mentioned both her father and her mother, Laksha realized she had inadvertently reminded herself of the phone call she had promised to make to her parents once she was settled in for the night. She decided to leave it for an appropriate pause. For the moment, she opened the flap and looked into the tent.
"Ah, how cozy! But Ganesh was right -- it is rather small."

Durant laughed at them. "Alright well I guess that means I should get ready then too, right Taraek?" Taraek nodded, and Durant began to look at the surrounding trees.
"This will do." he said at the base of a tall round tree. "Hey Taraek, I'll race you up!" He laughed again, then started pulling himself up the tree. Taraek waited for a couple minutes as Durant pulled himself speedily up the tree. Then, as Durant got close to reaching the top, he shot out his vines wrapping one around Durant's ankle and the other one on one of the tree's many upper branches. The then began pulling himself, quickly catching up to Durant.
However, it was Durant who reached the end first this time. He laughed and beamed at his friend who sat down next to him on one of the higher branches at the tree. "You started up too late that time pal. I think we'll need to go down a couple branches." Taraek nodded again, causing Durant to move down onto the larger, stronger branches of the tree.
When he arrived there he pulled out a large sleeping bag and climbed into it. Taraek appeared next to him a amoment later and extended his vines around the branches beneath him and Durant.

Dace chuckled at Laksha's comment about her Phanpy's sleeping habits. She then went back to the zipper.
"I'm going to get ready for bed, so I'm going to close the flap. But we can keep talking, okay?" She said, first zipping the mesh door shut while still talking to Laksha. She then brought the main flap over, and fastened it.
"Yeah, my Burmy doesn't really fidget in her sleep. She just kinda lays there, with her eyes looking weird."
"That makes me wonder... Why do bug Pokemon have eyelids, if they have a skeleton over their eyes? Isn't that kinda useless, then?" The noises of Dace struggling with her backpack were clearly heard.
"Of course, maybe they use them to clean stuff off of their eyes so that the can see better. Because otherwise, if a Burmy or Metapod or something got dust on their eyes, they wouldn't be able to get it off until they shed their skin."
"And how do Burmies shed their skin, anyways? I mean, they're all wrapped up like a mummy or something, and they have to get their old skin off? What do they do with it? I haven't really caught Minnow shedding before. Maybe they hide their old skin?"
"Or maybe-" Dace paused for dramatic effect. "They EAT it! EW!" A moment later, the sound of the zipper working could be heard. The flap fell loose, and Dace popped into view, now clad in blue flannel pajamas. She undid the zipper on the mosquito netting, and handed Laksha a small green bar, coated in plastic but sounding like it had liquid inside. A strip marked with red, an obvious pull tab, was at the end.
"Since Ganesh is in his ball, and so are the rest of ours," Dace pointed to Oddish's Pokeball in the corner, "We can use this. It's My dad said that the stuff in it's too strong for us to wear, but if we spread it on the ground, it'll keep wild stuff away from a place for a while."
"And by the way, Laksha, where on earth did Durant go? I thought he'd just put up his own tent beside us."
OOC: Not that good, but I think it still helps move things along. Probably one or two more round until sleep, depending on Photu's post and what he does for the call.

"He doesn't have a tent, apparently." Laksha gestured up to the tree branch, where Durant and Taraek were busy adjusting themselves to get as comfortable as possible. She couldn't help but feel worried that they might fall off in their sleep, but after seeing how effortlessly they had climbed the tree, Laksha guessed they had slept in branches before. And the branch was anyway not far up on the tree, a relatively safe height from which to fall.
With this concern quelled, her mind moved naturally on to the next one, which was that if the rain kept on overnight, Durant and Taraek would be lucky to wake up with nothing more severe than the common cold. But, not unusually, she opted to hold her tongue. As she had gathered earlier, Durant was a headstrong one -- not arrogant or stubborn, but certainly headstrong. He would do as he pleased and there seemed no point in arguing.
She accepted the Repel from Dace and pulled the tab. Immediately a strong odor emanated from the tube. It wasn't exactly noxious, but it did smell unpleasant in a vaguely artificial way. Laksha's father had told her about the properties of Pokemon repellent; this basic variety was engineered to give off a smell from which a wide array of wild Pokemon, especially mammals that relied heavily on scent, tended to retreat. Laksha set about squirting it on the grass, bushes and tree trunks around them.
Out of consideration for Taraek, she passed by Durant's tree without treating it, although she imagined that the Bulbasaur might be used to the smell -- most trained Pokemon grew so if their trainers used Repels often enough. At any rate she felt quite assured that neither the boy nor the Bulbasaur were likely to admit to any discomfort.
When she had finished with the Repel, she took out her phone. "Pardon me for a moment, I told my parents I'd call them tonight."
She got inside the tent and dialed her house number. In a few moments she was greeted with a warm word. "Sweetheart."
"Hi, mam," she said.
"How are you? Is everything all right?"
"I'm fine. We're all doing well."
"Are you at the Balao's home?"
Laksha paused. "No," she said. "We're on Route 5."
There was a small pause in return. Laksha tensed; she had been worried about this. Her parents had no doubt expected that she was spending the night at Dace's house. But in another beat, Sita Karttikeya said smoothly, "Not out in the open, I hope?"
"No, we're in Dace's tent. We're going to stay here the night and arrive at Cerulean tomorrow morning."
Another pause. Then: "Off the road, I assume. Out of the way of anyone passing by."
"Yes -- in a clearing. We put up Repel to keep away wild Pokemon, too."
A third, longer pause.
Then Laksha's mam said, "Well, I didn't know you would be camping out tonight, but I suppose with two other trainers and Ganesh, you don't have much to worry about."
"I didn't know we would be camping out tonight, either," Laksha said in what she realized was mild self-defense, "but yes, we'll be all right, I think."
"And the weather is all right?"
"It's fine," Laksha said carefully.
"Ganesh is feeling fit? Matsya? Sankh?"
"All three healthy."
"Then I'm out of worries," said Sita cheerily. "Take care of yourself, dear."
"Can I talk to pita?"
"He's still hosting a teleconference, I believe -- yes -- sorry. He'll talk to you tomorrow."
"All right. Good night, mam."
"Good night, Laksha."
* * *
Sita put down the phone and sat back. Upstairs she could faintly hear her husband talking about Technical Machines, but here in the Karttikeya's arched, tapestried living room, it was quiet. Certainly no noise came from the head-shaped statue positioned at the window: Kubera, stationed silently westward, in the direction of Cerulean.

Durant stayed quiet, listening to the all the sound of rain. He rolled over and looked at Dace's tent.
"Any idea what's going on in their?" He waited a moment for an answer from Taraek, but only received silence.
A moment later Laksha came out carrying something that Durant couldn't quite see. He watched as she went around the trees holding the object away from herself as she went.
"Huh... Wonder what she's doing.." he said aloud, not quite expecting an answer.
He continued watching as she bypassed his tree, and moved on to the next group of trees, then back into Dace's tent.
"Oh... I bet she was spraying repel! That'd explain why she left our tree alone." A moment later the scent caught his attention, it was faint, due to the smells from the trees and wet earth, as well as his distance from it, but it still caused him to make a face of disgust. He turned back over and buried himself in his bag.
"Taraek, I'll never know how people can stand that smell!" Taraek merely tilted his head in response to this. He gave no indication that he could smell the repel, and for all Durant could tell, didn't.

"You done with your call?" Dace asked, not realizing that if Laksha was indeed still on the phone, it would be a pointless query. "I wish I had a cellphone... My parents said I could get one for Christmas, but only if I don't mess up in school."
"In fact..." Dace reached into her pile of clothes on the tent floor and drew a small coin purse from it. "They just gave me a bunch of quarters and told me to call them when I get to Cerulean. How uncool is THAT? " Dace tossed the plastic case aside, bouncing it off of the tent wall.
"Not letting me borrow my dad's cellphone? I'm not a little kid anymore."
"That reminds me. I don't know your birthday, do I? That's no good." Dace slid into her sleeping bag, adjusting its zipper so it wasn't too tight on her.
"If you don't know your friend's birthdays, then you aren't quite their friend. It's one of those things you have to know about people." Dace leaned on her elbow, facing Laksha.
"My birthday's January Twenty First. Seems like it's a really long way away, doesn't it? I'm guessing that you were born in the winter... I bet Durant's a spring chicken. He seems like one, you know?"

OOC: OHSHITBIRTHDAYS. Now our characters will actually be expected to age and stuff. WILL RP EVER BE THE SAEM
"Close," Laksha smiled. "October twelfth. Firmly in the season of autumn, but getting colder, getting colder."
She drew up her knees and laced her arms across them, cocking her head mock-quizzically to the side. "What made you think I was a winter child? Surely not my icy and aloof demeanor?"
