The rain felt good against his skin. Though his clothing concealed every inch of skin on his body, there was enough precipitation that his cloak was saturated with the cool moisture. He stood alertly on a roof a good distance away from the crowd in forming in front of the apartment complex, peering about the streets with his binoculars. "Someone has to know one strong enough," he muttered aloud to himself in his deep, rumbling voice.
He was weary of wasted efforts; for years he had searched for someone with the power to accomplish his goal. To date none had been willing to or strong enough to help him. He had forced a good number into trying through brute force and intimidation, but they were never good for anything other than a full stomach.
Lightning crashed and the rain intensified. Had anyone looked up at the building he was on, they'd see his powerful outline crouching as if to prepare for a jump... but no one was that foolish, were they? Karcharos leaped off of the building and landed with a dull thud ten stories below in a squatting position. As he stood up, he looked over at a passerby who had stopped and was gaping at him in shock. "What's your problem?" he asked the man. Another bolt of lightning crashed, illuminating Karcharos' face. Or at least it would have did he not wear that mask; all the man saw was the outlines of a few odd features before Karcharos set off at a moderate walk towards the apartments he had seen the crowd at. "Someone has to know..." he thought.

cain wiped his eyes quickly to see if what he had seen was a mirage. When he had opened them the image of the floating girl had gone. "I got to lay of the cough syrup in the mornings" he said walking once again towards richard apartment. There he saw a scuttle in the alley next to the enterance to the building. he decided to hide near the enterance of the alley to evesdrop on the conversation.

OOC: I'm a failure *sobs* I'm sorry I disappeared, guys. School started. Band. Other shit. There's no excuse. I just kind of suck. But I'm back, and hopefully this more or less makes up for it.
BIC:
The lights dimmed slowly until they completely faded, leaving the café silent and shifting with shadows thrown by the rain and streetlights. Sighing dismally, the barista gave the room a last glance, closed the door, and locked it; and as he turned to leave, he didn't expect to run bodily into someone.
He glanced up, cursing anything that drifted through his mind. His barrier was a taller man who might have been in his late twenties or thirties, judging by the scattering of gray on his dark head. Vaguely, the barista suspected that, if he cared at all, this stranger might look familiar. In his company was a rather glum-looking woman, raven-haired and dressed like she might be expecting a funeral. She was staring downward, focused on neither the pavement nor the dripping hem of her dress. Neither of the pair seemed to mind the rain that was coming down in steady sheets by now.
The man studied him for a moment, then cocked his head to the side, scowling. "I don't suppose you noticed anyone worthy of paying attention to in this hole in the wall, did you?" He jerked his head stolidly in the direction of the café entrance.
Somewhat offended and otherwise clueless, the barista raised his eyebrow in a look that suggested the man who was accosting him could do something indelicate with this hole in the wall if he so pleased.
His inquisitor rolled his eyes. "No one? There's not a rat in this miserable city who'd want to patronize this establishment, hm?"
The barista hinted that there might be some such rat if this man were to look under his lack of personality with a cough, and he began to sense that his aggressor was becoming a little irritable.
"Where exactly," the stranger hissed in a strained tone, "did the last person in this hellhole leave toward?"
"Oh," the barista said mildly, and he pointed somewhere off the horizon where the city's complex of vertical hovels was constructed. Watching as the man turned brusquely on his heel and motioned for the woman to follow before starting down the road, he felt a small ray of achievement. Satisfied with the outcome, he turned, shaking his head, and started in the opposite direction as the strange pair.
-------------------------------------------------
Several things happened at once. Rhys became only fleetingly aware of the several people who seemed to be appearing around him before the streetlights flickered out, and it seemed like the air in this particular stretch of street darkened and thickened into the consistency of lead. Confused and only barely concerned with the welfare of the other beings, he had just enough time to form a shield around himself and the young girl beside him with their shadows before the pressure forced him to his knees.
OOC: Proper action, finally. ^^;;

OOC: Psh, school just started for me too. You didn't see a sudden drop in activity from me. Er, wait.
BIC: Vieve didn't like the dark. She didn't like the presence of someone else's shadow over her. Her own shadow retracted into her body as she pulled back her powers, trying to keep her physical self from fading. In the darkness, the girl shivered visibly, and sweat began to form on her brow. She was hugging herself, trying to keep hold, because if she let go, she'd be nothing but ethereal shadow, at least until a proper light source came on.

OOC: ...React. Now that I'm thinking about it, this is a little awkward to respond to. Perhaps I should add more to it. Or something.

Cain but on his glasses due to a sudden darkness and the odd things appearing. Then an odd presence began to move around him. His glasses shattered due to the pressure and a scream ran out across the alley. Cain wasn't oddly the one to scream it was something else.

OOC: Okay, guys, here's the deal.
I made the mistake of starting this RP:
A: After an excruciatingly long cessation of my own writing activities.
B: Without a concrete plot.
C: With a story that, I'm beginning to realize, should really be a stand-alone project.
So I'm thinking it might be best to, like, stop. And kill it. And I'll either try it again when I haven't been not-writing for two years, or I'll come up with something 150% better.
But I don't want to smite this with righteous fury if you guys are still interested in it. I'm just saying that I feel like it's not going to come anywhere close to any semblance of potential it might possess.
What say you? Keep trying, or snuff it?

I'll spend tonight trying to come up with a direction.
Would it help if I posted again to...I dunno, alleviate some of the confusion? Or something? 'Cause I might.
