"But what'd you expect?" Zakks said, propping his feet up on the table. Teren gave Zakks a harsh look, her black eyes almost piercing into his soul. Zakks smirked, and shrugged it off.
"When I requested your services, I was not aware of any fees," Teren said. "Though, I find now killing you payment enough."
"Yeah? Too bad," Zakks replied, sipping from a bottle of stolen beer. Teren gave an annoyed sound, and threw a bag of money at Zakks. Zakks smirked again, and pocketted the money.
Zakks nodded, and pulled himself up from his seat.
"Alright, where we off to?" He asked.
"We're after a mystical object, filled with power," Teren said coldly, raising a hand. Instantly, a ring of black mist formed above her head, blocking out the sun.
"Yeah, I got that part," Zakks said, sounding slightly annoyed. "I mean, where are we off to?"
"It is hidden behind many puzzles," Teren continued. "It was once guarded by a wind-controlling tiger, though it seems the tiger has been taken before now."
"Thrilling," Zakks said.
Teren gave another annoyed noise, and raised her hand again. Zakks felt an unusual sensation wash over him, like he was hurtling down a vast emptiness at breakneck speeds, the wind roaring in his ears, ruffling his hear, his clothes, his eyes watering from the speed and wind.
Suddenly the sensation stopped, and Zakks found himself in a very different place. He was no longer in a busy city - he was in a vast field. There was a light breeze, rustling the leaves in the trees, and pushing the sea of grass. Up to the north was a mountain range, which Zakks cound sense some energy in, even without any sensing powers. To the south, a lake, which Zakks had no interest in.
"Up there?" Zakks asked. Teren nodded. "Alright then."
Zakks reloaded one of his guns, inserting a special bullet. He had too keep an eye on those bullets, he only had three left, after this. He raised his gun and shot right into the cloudless sky.
As soon as it hit a certain altitude, the bullet exploded in an impressive display of red-and-black pyrotechnics. Zakks gave a small grin, but soon lost it when Teren's hand smacked into the back of his head.
"What the fuck was that for?" Zakks said, looking up and rubbing his head.
"Why did you do that?" Teren demanded.
"You're gonna go into whatever it is, without knowing anything, and without back up?" Zakks said. Teren shrugged.
"I have enough confidence in my skills."
"Well I don't," Zakks said, turning and walking towards the mountain. Teren gave a thoughtful look. Maybe there was more to Zakks than met the eye.
