Whoo man. Okay. Here we have the first of oh so many ideas I plan to rip off the most admirable creative presence on the Internet, Andrew Hussie of MS Paint Adventures. (If you have not read Homestuck, who are you, are we friends, I think not.) This is I guess probably the most obvious way in which I intend to leech Mr. Hussie’s genius. But on the other hand it is also arguably the most generic. I mean it’s not as though he was the first person ever to come up with the idea of running a character based on readers’ suggestions, right? Right? Oh god, right? I’m not a hideous plagiarist, am I?
Well you know what I don’t care! Because this is gonna be really fun and it should be an excellent way to prod at the medium of RP and find more that it’s capable of. I am all about that shit.
Basically I have this character. His name’s Renard. Now Renard is going to behave, in-story, exactly like any other RP character. He’s not, like, the protagonist of a video game or something. He inhabits the same universe as the rest of ORP. Only difference is, I’m not pulling the strings behind Renard. You guys will make the suggestions that’ll fuel his actions.
Pretty much go read this topic, his debut RP, right now (although be careful ’cuz that topic links back to this one so don’t get caught in an endless hyperlink loop okay?). There’s your starting point. You can begin making suggestions for him immediately.
Here’s how it’ll go down:
And do I have any guidelines to set for these suggestions? Why yes I do!
That’s it, I guess. All right guys. Suggestions are go.

Here’s how it’ll go down:
- Whenever it’s my turn to post in a topic containing Renard (and that’s pretty much all the time right now until I allow other people to join this RP), I’ll check this topic first.
- I’ll pick my favorite suggestion out of those so far and adapt it into Renard’s next post.
- Alternately (perhaps, in fact, most of the time), I’ll take two or more suggestions and work them into the same post, whether as sequential or simultaneous actions.
- I’ll probably pick a suggestion from among the “freshest” ones, meaning those made since the last time Renard got a post. But I reserve the right to pick older suggestions if they still make sense in context.
- You’ll be credited for making any suggestion of yours that gets used (I’ll quote your post).
- Afterward, I’ll update this topic with a link to Renard’s latest post so you can find it all easily-like for MOAR SUGGESTIONS
And do I have any guidelines to set for these suggestions? Why yes I do!
- If you’ve read MSPA, you can probably assume this already, but: Suggestions are best phrased as direct imperative commands like “Chase the crooks”, “Inspect the evidence”, etc. You probably shouldn’t need more than a sentence per suggestion.
- MAKE AS MANY SUGGESTIONS AS YOU WANT. This is essential. There’s no limit to how many suggestions any one person can make per round, or how many I’ll use from any one person overall. Suggest as many ideas as come to mind! Renard will be nothing without your suggestions. Nothing! Don’t do that to the poor guy!
- The best suggestions are those that call for actions on Renard's part, not those that call for external events to befall him like, I don't know, "Be struck by a falling meteor." Renard should be in control of his own life!
- The best suggestions also make use only of details which are either already given in the story or which can be taken for granted without particular consideration (like, it's okay to assume that Renard's fridge contains food. It doesn't work so well to assume his fridge contains a human head if I haven't already told you that). (It doesn't. Just food.)
- The curious anomaly of the pipe notwithstanding, Renard is an ordinary human without any supernatural powers. That said, though, I have no objection to giving him whatever special human talents your suggestions may require.
- I got to phrase this really carefully to not sound like a Stop Having Fun Guy, but… try to keep the LOL WACKY suggestions to a minimum if you can possibly help it. Obviously we’re supposed to be able to have fun with Renard, that’s the whole point – but you guys are smart enough to know there’s a difference between an absurdist but ultimately coherent and cohesive character, and a character who’s just a bunch of random “hilarious” moments strung together with no substance (like Rhometer! zing!). I’m trying for the former, so while funny suggestions are welcome, thoughtful suggestions might be even more appreciated. Suggestions that are both thoughtful and funny, of course, get a combo bonus.
- This isn’t really important yet since Renard’s only in one topic at the moment, but just a heads-up: Once he’s in two or more active RPs at the same time, I’ll ask you guys to be sure to specify which RP you’re prompting him for. Right now, don’t worry about it.
That’s it, I guess. All right guys. Suggestions are go.
