...infuriating character ever.
Name o' Sebastian. He's seen all of two RPs, one of which I dropped out of and the other of which died prematurely.
He's actually got a fairly nifty ability set and completely non-RP-like backstory. He's mostly just a normal human, attending university and staying on campus with his roommates.
The problem? Because of that, he has very little reason to ever leave the campus or neighbouring city. So slotting him into RPs is the most difficult thing ever (or it is until I set up my plot for him).
How about you guys? I know Lee has at least one character who is impossible to slot into plots anywhere. Anyone else have characters like that?

You should stick with Shrinking. If it ever moves, it'll get better, shortly.
But yeah, I have a few "Problem individuals". Worst of all is probably either Blaise, who needs distinct personal motivation to be bothered, or Enos, who has to be on a mission from God to even give something a go (Post appropriate Blues Brothers images now)

Rhometer & Higgledy-Piggledy.
Actually Charles Tanner too. With apologies to Elliot.
And, on the APCARP side of the fence, Lazarro Orsini will probably turn out to be similar.
So you know what Terrian and Laksha are really the only two characters I can use easily. I set the bar pretty high.

Mandelbrot. I want to develop M more, but when your motivation is killing powers, and you enjoy being up close and personal instead of orchestrating and watching, it's kind of hard to get in a topic.
Cobra is also a problem, also due to not liking to play nice. Same with Ysane. I see a trend here.
I could probably slot them in better if people were open to the possibility of someone completely and utterly derailing their topic with evil shenanigans, but that's usually not the case, and I would feel rude doing it even if they were. So really, the only way to do anything with them would be to create specific topics for them.
Anyway, I find "normal human" to be a poor excuse for not getting into RPs. Julia has been getting the most attention from me lately, and she's completely 100% human with no powers beyond what a normal person can learn. Normalish people have the best excuse for wrong-place-wrong-time entries due to going on vacations, having to travel by conventional means, not suspecting anything wrong will happen, visiting normal friends and family (of which there are always an abundance), etc.
That whole traveling by conventional means makes Nick hard to use, strangely enough. Since he can't get somewhere in an instant, and since information only moves so fast, he needs to use the wrong-place-wrong-time excuse, but due to his extreme thirst for learning abnormal things, he would probably be at a past site, not a current one.
Then more on motivation, we've got my lovely mercenaries Rie and Eddie. Eddie is absolutely useless without a mech, and the only way he'd go out with a mech is if he were hired. Rie also doesn't get out unless she's hired, but due to knowing people, she can get dragged along.
Ender was pretty good at getting into topics because he could teleport and sense stuff. Too bad he's dead.
Hmm jeez. My only easy to insert characters now are Julia and Vieve. Julia because of reasons stated above, and Vieve because she's a wanderer. Rie's circumstantial at best due to needing someone to drag her into something.

When I said normal human, I meant typical uni student. So yeah, he very rarely needs to stray outside of his campus/city, making him painful to use.
As far as the whole "wrong place wrong time" plot point goes, I've always felt it was pretty weak as far as characters such as Sebastian goes. In Shrinking it kinda made sense, since visiting a supermarket is perfectly normal, but in a topic such as Steph's bog monster thing, I can't imagine Sebastian ever possibly fitting into it.

His college class took a funded trip to africa to study the effects of mass industrialization on swamp land, and research ways to minimize the impact.

That's possibly the most sane yet convoluted plot points I've heard so far.

But the topic is in the Ukraine, IIRC. Which I'm fairly sure is not in Africa.

It's in Greater Africa.
